Nurse's Message

November 14, 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify the following policies regarding the nurse’s office:

  • If your child requires medication in school and you have not brought it in to me, please do so.  Students are not allowed to bring medication in to school with them; they must be given to me directly.  If there are any problems, please call me and we can make arrangements.

  • I cannot give students cough drops, as we have in the past.  If you feel that your child needs cough drops, please send in a few with a note.  Your child will be allowed to keep them in their pocket or desk in class to use as needed.  They may not share them with other students.

  • If your child requires a splint, sling, brace, ace bandage, crutches, etc. for an injury, you must send in a letter from the doctor as to the nature of the injury, the device needed, and any activity restrictions they may have.

  • Please don’t forget to call students out absent if they will not be in school or tardy if they have an appointment first thing in the morning.  If you know the night before, or even in the middle of the night, that your child will be absent, you can call the absence line at (203) 484-1460 and leave a message at any time.

  • If anything changes in the present status of your child’s health (surgery, medication-new or changes, new diagnosis), please notify me.

  • To minimize the incidence of lice in our school, please check your child’s hair several times per week.  The main symptom of lice is head/scalp itching.  Remind your child not to share things like hats, helmets, hair accessories, combs and brushes, and to use their own pillows-especially at sleep-overs.  Nits are very small and white, they look like dandruff but you cannot blow or brush them out of your hair.  I find it easiest to look under natural light, in a window or outside.

  • If your child is vomiting or has a fever, please keep them home for 24 hours after the vomiting/fever has subsided.

As always, please feel free to contact me or call for any questions or concerns that may develop over the school year.  You can also email me at ctirollo@northbranfordschools.org.  I look forward to a healthy school year for all of us!

                                                                                                          Sincerely,

                                                                                                          Cindi Tirollo, R.N.
